Our social committee at work was quick this morning to demonstrate that yesterday’s seemingly poor choice at work in fund raising ideas was actually the norm. We all received an email this morning congratulating us on the amount of money we had raised for the Heart and Stroke Foundation through yesterday’s bake sale, reminding us that it was just the beginning. The fund raising continues today with sales of Candy Grams for Valentine’s.

I’m saving my pennies, I know that there must be a poutine sale coming soon!

I know they mean well, but….

As February is Heart Month, various fund raisers for the Heart and Stroke Association of BC are planned at work. One of them takes place today in the form of a bake sale today in the cafeteria.

In a building full of geeks that sit on their ass talking on the phone all day, located in a town where no one has ever turned down seconds and my fat ass doesn’t stand out as much as when I’m home in Abbotsford or in Vancouver, you are promoting Heart Month with the sale of sugar and carbohydrate laden goodies?

If I wasn’t sick, I’d be down there being a trouble maker.

“Can you point me to the Heart Healthy cookies?”

This evening Karin’s family gathered at the ABC restaurant in the Best Western near the Clearbrook Road exit of Highway 1 to celebrate her parents’ 55th wedding anniversary. I must admit, I was a bit apprehensive about the location; ABC’s are not the on my list of places I prefer over simply going hungry. However, this location surprised me by having a nice banquet room and very good food. Even the display of the food was above Abbotsford’s usual standards. I have always felt that the local catering marked our town as somewhat of a hick town, especially since we used to do much better catering when I worked in the true hick town of Lewiston, Idaho.

It does not seem that it has been 5 years since we gathered to celebrate the last milestone, but I was assured that it had been. The family all gathered except for the great-grandchildren, who already have attended too many events in the past month. The actual anniversary date is this Thursday, and so next weekend would have been closer to the day, but my in-laws are climbing into the motorhome next weekend with their son Rudy and his wife Geisla to spend a month in California. I don’t think many people are that active at this point in their life!

Before we left I took a picture of them with their five children, something they like to ensure they do when they reach such milestones. From left to right is Karin, Berto, Trudy, Rudy, Peter, Carlos and Waltrude.

We all wish them a safe and happy trip; who knows how many more they will be able to make.  We glad that they can go this year, and that we were able to celebrate their long life together with them.

Happy Anniversary Peter and Trudy!

I’ve been bad and not posted for quite a while. I do feel a little bad about it, but that’s mitigated by two things.

First, this is my blog, I can decide how often I post.

Second, I was doing a lot of things. A lot more important things.

So we did have a great vacation, and I’ll talk about it in future posts. We did build new computers so that we can finally enter the modern age, more stuff for another post. We had a good Christmas and New Year’s, and now I finally feel like I have a little bit of time to return to life. Thus, I’ll start posting again. I didn’t really want to start only to end up stopping as each speed bump came along.

I do hope you all had a great holiday season, and that 2008 will treat you well.

Until I post more, here’s something I found hilarious. This is ripped off from Christie’s blog exhausticated.com
