Karin often visits Save.ca, a Canadian coupon site where you pick the manufacturers’ coupons that you want, and they then print those coupons (and only those coupons) for you and mail them directly to you. Right now they are offering a free 4lb. bag of Iams cat or dog (or both) dry food. The coupons are actually for $9.00 off of any size bag of dog food or $14.50 off any size bag of cat food, so if you found the biggest bag they have on sale and also took off the full value of the coupon, it would then become quite a deal.

I found this at SmartCanucks.ca, a site I’ve had in my Google Reader for some time. They track many deals, both on the main site and in the forums. The comments so far on the site are postulating that this is damage control in the wake of the mass recalls of pet food and thousands of animals dying throughout Canada and the US. However, considering that all the recalled food was wet food, and in fact it has been stressed over and over that dry food is safe; what first came to my mind was that they are attempting to take advantage of the recall to convert owners that have traditionally fed wet over to their brand of dry food.

Whether it’s damage control, an attempt to win new customers, kindness, or part of a pre-determined campaign; it’s a great deal and we’ll get both ourselves and then probably give the dog food to a shelter. What do you think the motivation is?

Windows Vista is due out in a few days, and there is much debate as to whether to switch. Eventually most computers will use it simply because it will be what is offered with most new computers from this point forward. Whether your looking to buy it or even if you are just curious, here are the prices on both the Canadian and US Costco sites. You can even order Vista already on the Canadian site, though with our dollars so close in value to each other right now, it looks like it might be worth it to import a copy from the US, as the price differences are much higher than they should be if it was just the exchange rate making the difference.

We aren’t considering upgrading here simply because our computers are not powerful enough to run it, and upgrades are not in the budget right now. However, even it was, I’d likely hold for a short bit and let the “average” computer become even stronger, so that it is not struggling in a few years with the combination of Vista and programs designed to run on Vista. Our current computers we’re built just as Windows XP was being released and ran it with lightning speed at first; but now that we have Service Pack 2 installed and the latest versions of Office, Photoshop, Firefox, etc., we are desperately wishing we could afford those upgrades now.
