This evening Karin’s family gathered at the ABC restaurant in the Best Western near the Clearbrook Road exit of Highway 1 to celebrate her parents’ 55th wedding anniversary. I must admit, I was a bit apprehensive about the location; ABC’s are not the on my list of places I prefer over simply going hungry. However, this location surprised me by having a nice banquet room and very good food. Even the display of the food was above Abbotsford’s usual standards. I have always felt that the local catering marked our town as somewhat of a hick town, especially since we used to do much better catering when I worked in the true hick town of Lewiston, Idaho.
It does not seem that it has been 5 years since we gathered to celebrate the last milestone, but I was assured that it had been. The family all gathered except for the great-grandchildren, who already have attended too many events in the past month. The actual anniversary date is this Thursday, and so next weekend would have been closer to the day, but my in-laws are climbing into the motorhome next weekend with their son Rudy and his wife Geisla to spend a month in California. I don’t think many people are that active at this point in their life!
Before we left I took a picture of them with their five children, something they like to ensure they do when they reach such milestones. From left to right is Karin, Berto, Trudy, Rudy, Peter, Carlos and Waltrude.

We all wish them a safe and happy trip; who knows how many more they will be able to make. We glad that they can go this year, and that we were able to celebrate their long life together with them.
Happy Anniversary Peter and Trudy!
