Karin often visits Save.ca, a Canadian coupon site where you pick the manufacturers’ coupons that you want, and they then print those coupons (and only those coupons) for you and mail them directly to you. Right now they are offering a free 4lb. bag of Iams cat or dog (or both) dry food. The coupons are actually for $9.00 off of any size bag of dog food or $14.50 off any size bag of cat food, so if you found the biggest bag they have on sale and also took off the full value of the coupon, it would then become quite a deal.

I found this at SmartCanucks.ca, a site I’ve had in my Google Reader for some time. They track many deals, both on the main site and in the forums. The comments so far on the site are postulating that this is damage control in the wake of the mass recalls of pet food and thousands of animals dying throughout Canada and the US. However, considering that all the recalled food was wet food, and in fact it has been stressed over and over that dry food is safe; what first came to my mind was that they are attempting to take advantage of the recall to convert owners that have traditionally fed wet over to their brand of dry food.

Whether it’s damage control, an attempt to win new customers, kindness, or part of a pre-determined campaign; it’s a great deal and we’ll get both ourselves and then probably give the dog food to a shelter. What do you think the motivation is?
